Dalai Lama
( 6 July 1935 - )
Pendrawing 40 X 50 cm ( color)

A man who intrigues me because somewhere I see that there is a little boy soul dwells in him.

While drawing things came up. As they work in Tibet or at least as they work in their faith, the new leader designated by signs.
The current Dalai Lama, officially called Tenzin Gyatso, was very young
when he was taken away from his parents and brought up in the temple.
As reincarnation of Chenrezig it was also used that he had the political leadership of the country.
Since the exile of the Dalai Lama the country is now completely owned by China.

But this man, who lives already for a long time in exile, knows how to captivate the world with some remarkable statements.
Unfortunately, most statements do not come from himself but are told by his fellow monks who are always near him.
You won’t see him much in public all by himself. The reason why became clear to me when drawing.

Dalai Lama sees his life as a show and a way to get publicity ( ego ).
In Tibetan Buddhism he is the leader but he never lost his childhood. He is a man who likes to do strange, funny things.
Things that were not allowed officially.
One can see very clearly the child within him and his closest disciples should correct him constantly.
He steals the show by still doing something else than normally allowed.
But his followers are not so happy with all these actions.
Constantly they want to portray him as a wise man with a lot experience of life.
That is what Buddhism wants to come out with.
Unfortunately it does not work through their current leader.
Many things that he has to tell or has to answer, not always come so wisely out of his mouth.
Purely because he cannot understand the questions let alone to give a convincing answer.

It was clear that the man I drew, was not the wise man with thousands of proverbs.
We did have fun together and as a human he has certainly good energy.
However, I did not met wisdom but a small child dressed in some dark red patches.
